Vision Aid Overseas

Thursday 20th October 2005 saw Club President Alan O'Neill and Rotarian Bill Tillotson visit the offices of Vision Aid Overseas who are based in Crawley, to deliver a large quantity of lenses and glasses which had been donated by local opticians. The donation was especially appreciated as the lenses that were donated had already been graded and included a number of high minus grades, which apparently are much sort after.

The club would like to thank the Stephen Stewart-Duncan, proprietor of Stewart Duncan Opticians, 213 High Street, Brentford, Middlesex for his kind donation of the lenses and Mr D Patel, proprietor of Mirage Opticians, 155 Pitshanger Lane, Ealing who donated the glasses.

Vision Aid Overseas is a UK-based charity dedicated to helping needy people in the developing world whose lives are blighted by poor eyesight, particularly in those cases where spectacles can help.

Vision Aid Overseas receive unwanted glasses from organisations such as Rotary, who collect the from local opticians, and other groups such as the Salvation Army. These glasses are then sent to prisons to be cleaned, graded and packaged up ready to be sent overseas to places like Ghana. These glasses really can change a persons life.

If you have old glasses that you no longer require, and which could help needy people overseas, then please e-mail us, and we will try and arrange collection.
