Rotary Young Chef Competition



Monday the 9th February 2009 saw 9 students from 4 schools across the borough coming together to take part in this years West Area Rotary Young Chef Competition.

For the Area Heats entrants were asked to .

1. Prepare a healthy, one course main meal suitable for two people

2. The cost of the ingredients were not to exceed £4.50, although additionally they could select one product from the Shana range which would be provided at no cost.

3. They were expected to work from a Time Plan and marks were given for this, as well as cooking skills, presentation of dish, flavour and texture of the final meal.

4. They could use convenience foods but credit was given for cookery skills, e.g. if they made their own pastry, within the 1 ½ hours time limit.

The Aim of the competition is:

- Develop cookery skills - Develop food preparation skills - Consider healthy eating options - Prove their organisational and planning skills - Prove their ability to cope in a demanding situation

It was a great day and the variety of food was quite extensive with the judges having a very difficult job in deciding the eventual winner and runner up who will go through to the District Final on the 21st February but decide they did and the two students going forward were
