District Governor's Visit

Tuesday the 30th of August 2005 saw Rotary in London District Governor, Robert Morris, visit a joint meeting of The Rotary Club of Hanwell & Northfields and The Rotary Club of Ealing.

The purpose of Robert's visit was to inform the clubs of his and Rotary International's vision for the current Rotary year.

Some of the things Robert touched upon included:

Polio Eradication

During this year Rotary aims to try and complete on its commitment to eradicate Polio and gain certification for a Polio Free World, not an easy task as this will be only the second disease ever, to be totally eradicated by man.

Community Service

We must continue our support for local community activities. It is the Rotary motto "Service Above Self" that differentiates Rotary from other organisations, and it is one of our major strengths.

New Clubs

Rotary plan to continue the trend of opening vibrant new Rotary Clubs in London. These will comprise both the conventional Rotary Club, and the recently launched initiative of an "e" club, reflecting the power of the internet in our lives today.

Supported Organisations

We will be supporting our two National Projects this year in the form of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, and Mercy Ships. Both these projects are life saving and life changing and both provide assistance that is intensely needed. Both projects will be featured at our District Conference being held in Eastbourne between 20 - 23 October 2005.

We will continue to support The Rotary Foundation, the fund that assists Rotarians around the world in funding their projects, and in ensuring that every pound that is donated results in one pound being used on a Rotary project.
