Rotary Young Chef Competition



This competition was created to give young people the chance to show off their creative culinary talents, to promote healthy eating and to learn important life skills.


Open to 11-17 year olds (as at 31st August prior to the RIBI Final), the competition starts with Rotary-led competitions at a local venue, such as a school or college. The winners proceed to the district competition and onwards to a regional final and, ultimately, to the UK and Ireland final.

The Challenge

The young chefs prepare a healthy meal of their choice for two people, to demonstrate their ability to be creative without the need for expensive ingredients and following the principles of a healthy diet. The young chefs are judged on their healthy menu, planning and organisational skills, hygiene, preparation skills and, of course, the taste and presentation of their meal.

Each chef has to operate within the same limited budget and in the same kitchens, so it is truly the talent and ability that is judged.
